"Your Body is your gift - Dress up & enjoy!!"

Tuesday, 5 June 2012

And I have also been working with a client to help her "re-invent" some garments for her:

Here's what we did:

For this simple wee tunic-dress, my client has a particularly tiny waist, so we added the ribbon detail to define the waist, & shortened & re-hemmed the satin along the base of the tunic for a more edgy but elegant look.

And this darling tunic is just gorgous, but just hung without shape; so I gave it the ol' "Annah Stretton" treatment (!) & rouched it to drape nicely.........

& I also added the hooks & ribboning & more rouching at the back, to fit to my client's waist.

Result:  one very happy client!

My client is a Marilyn Monroe fan; add the stripes & Marilyn becomes VERY burlesque indeed!

These very hard-wearing graphics will out-wear the shoes............

And these are a definite one-off graphic manipulation that my client fell in love with; so these are TRULY bespoke one-offs!!

Merric Makeovers and Merryment!

Merric Makeovers and Merryment!

'Twas the days before Xmas & there was shopping to be done!  I had the opportunity to bring my styling tips & techniques to the gorgeous clients of Merric clothing store at Northlands Mall Christchurch in the days leading up to Xmas.

The Merric staff made me feel very welcome & we all had great fun together - but oh-so-busy with thanks to the amazing choice of stock & colour in the store!

I was literally speed-styling my way through the days; wonderful to meet so many lovely ladies!!

I WILL be back to offer more styling days soon - I'm just sorting out dates as we speak -  Watch for this poster on the Merric window!

As for the choices in-store - well; aside from the pricing being very well-pitched (Most garments are no more than $70!), the colours cater for all; and a great choice of tops, thru to tunics, thru to skirts & dresses..............

Whether you're a petite or tall pear, apple, column or hourglass, there's something for every lady!

Ooogling the Orange....

It's not often you will have a choice of sooo many wonderful shades of oranges & lovely bright rusts!  These have graced the bods of both warm & cool ladies alike.  Sooo worth the fashion adventure!

Always ready for Red..........

Check these out!  Crusader fans rejoice!  Seriously, red seems to be a tricky colour to source in the general scheme of things fash & Merric offer a lovely selection of shades to suit both spectrums of warm & cool tones; I'm impressed!

Green Theme...........

I adore green for summer - it's soooo juicy!  & these tones are no exception!  I have so much fun watching a clients' skintone shine with the right garment from this collection.

And, Julie from Merric has chosen some adorable summer cardis & wraps which are waiting for you..........

Blue for you...........

Mmmmm, I can hear you say  ;-)))  Any day is a perfect time for Big Girl Dress Ups - may we never grow up!!

So much to chose from in such a small area in the blue section!  I love how the clothing has been colour-organised; it makes shopping so much easier.

And, of course, there are a great range of oh-so-needed staples of blacks, whites, & neutral colours for the layering that we so need here in ChCh.

Also; the dressing rooms are well-lit & spacious, with stools for weary legs, & even a range of heels to slip into while trying garments, if you need!

And if I'm not there, the girls are VERY helpful & friendly; they certainly are there to help put a smile on your face!

Some days I LOVE my work; some days I just LOOOVE my work....

Some days I LOVE my work; some days I just LOOOVE my work....

And thanks to a lovely young lady called Liz Drury, this was one of those days that I felt blessed to be doing this work.

With Liz's permission, I am able to share her recent makeover with you:

Liz was needing a full outfit for a special event that she was attending, & wanted to really impress!  Being a tomboy at heart, Liz had only ever worn a dress once in her life, & so was looking at this process with just a bit of apprehension.  We warmed to each other immediately, & I can say that it was my pleasure to be able to make Liz feel relaxed & at home as we went about our shopping adventure.

As part of our one-on-one pre-shopping consult, I was thrilled to be told that Liz did NOT want any black as part of her outift; yay!  And, being in her early 30's, Liz has a sharp sense of humour, & I wanted her to be able to absolutely "own" her outfit, & to also be comfortable while wearing it as well.

We came upon a gorgeous dress when we were at Riccarton Mall; LOVED the colour, loved the fabric, but sadly, the dress didn't fit as we had hoped..........I spent a moment outside Liz's dressing room & sketched up a design that would allow me to remake the dress for a gorgeous fit...........with Liz's trust & prompting, we bought our dress & I got to work!

Introducing - Liz!  After her first fitting; feeling delighted with the redesigned dress, & her wee red shrug that complimented the red of the dress perfectly.

Liz had her hair recently coloured, but I wasn't happy with the redness of the hair-colour against Liz's beautiful pale complexion, & I asked if I may bring in my Hair Angel, Bronwyn McKay, to add her magic to the mix........

Who's that GORGEOUS woman?!!

Again, it's results like this that are the reasons why I love my work!  Thanks to hairdresser Bronwyn's knowledge with matching hair colour to skin tone, we were able to 'bring down' the redness of Liz's complexion by cancelling out the red tones in Liz's hair.

Bronwyn also shaped & layered Liz's hair for a low-maintenance, more elegant but sporty casual look; which Liz LOVED!!

And check out Liz's eyes; the colour allowed those baby blues to "pop"..........

"Is that REALLY me?!"  said Liz!

Enjoy your own hair makeover experience by contacting Bronwyn McKay on 021.644.894 to arrange a free consultation.

We also found the perfect pair of shoes for Liz from Ziera; Liz needed supportive shoes & these fitted the bill just perfectly.  Better still, Liz could wear these with jeans & smart-casual t-shirts after the event.  The shoes peeped out underneath the dress with a not-so-formal, 'summer's coming' feel, which I wanted, so that Liz could wear the dress more casually after the event, by adding a denim vest, a skinny long scarf, or maybe long colourful beads.

Our finished outift; hair & makeup done, shoes, shrug; elegant earrings; ready to go!!

I knew my work was a job well done when Liz ticked my "boxes"; she felt comfortable; better still, she felt like a new woman; & very excited with how she gorgeous she looked!  In fact, she couldn't wait to impress friends & family.

I have been in touch with Liz since, & she was able to say that many people simply didn't recognise her at the event, & her family really love her new look.  Nice!  It also meant alot to me that she was enjoying her new hairstyle, & that she would maintain the new look.

Thankyou Liz, for allowing me to share your wardrobe adventure!

Go, Girl!!!
